My Fall Mantel & Fireplace

| | | | |

I am sharing with you my fall mantel ideas that you can use for inspiration in your own home!

Hi friends and welcome to stop #1 on day four of the Fall In Love With Your Home tours. Today, it’s all about Fall Mantels and I’m tickled to be able to show you mine.

If you’re new here, please let me introduce my blog to you.  When I started Worthing Court blog four years ago, our home was quite a bit different than the home that we live in today.  The decor was pretty traditional and weighed heavily on the red, green and gold side.  We sold that home a little over a year ago and purchased my dream home!  You might not think that a twenty year old, extremely dated, brick home is a dream home, but it sure is to me.  My hubby and I have spent the last year remodeling our new-to-us home from top to bottom and we still aren’t finished.  We’ve totally remodeled the kitchen, the master bath and laundry room and are slowly working our way through the rest of the house. Click HERE to take a look at everything that has been done so far.

The last time that I shared my fireplace and mantel was after its total makeover and it was all decked out for the summer.  Well, today I’m happy to be able to share my rustic fall mantel with you!

I’m really honored to be participating in the “Fall In Love With Your Home” blog tour series. It’s going on this whole week and you’ll find the links to all of the bloggers and their inspiring posts at the bottom of the page.

One of my four-legged sidekicks decided that he wanted to be part of my elevated fall mantel reveal, so you’ll see his cute little face in several of my photos.  That’s Opie The Ferocious Guard Dog, btw.

The main reason that I chose the rustic faux gate to hang above my mantel, is that it provides a good backdrop for changing out my DIY wreaths for all of the different holidays and seasons.  The gate makes it easy to switch out some of the other accessories and I’m done.  And since we have such a tall ceiling in the family room, it helps to fill the voluminous wall space above the fireplace.

The large beachy lantern on the left side of the mantel stayed from the summer look, but I changed out the summery topiary and candle that it contained, to a wheat sheaf and a couple of pumpkins for fall.  The right side of my mantel holds an urn (that used to live on top of the entertainment center at our former house) and a great farmhouse wooden lantern that I found at a local store.  I definitely have a thing for rustic looking lanterns.

I still love my decorative vintage squirrel that I found at a junk shop a few years ago.  Do you happen to remember his first appearance on my Bounty Of The Harvest Thanksgiving tablescape one year?

Down on the fireplace hearth, a basket brimming with pumpkins and some crooked and gnarly sticks is on one side of the fireplace.  One of the perks of having woods surrounding us is that there’s never a shortage of sticks and branches to use for decorating!

Three candlesticks topped with twig pumpkins and backed by a faux tobacco basket are on the other side.  Those candlesticks used to be red, green and gold until I gave them my “driftwood look” makeover.  I promise that I’ll share how I do that one of these days.

I’ve been busy fallifying other areas of my house too.

  1. Oh, Suzy, it looks wonderful! I think yours may be my favorite of all the fall mantels I’ve seen. You’re very clever to hang that faux gate and then change out the wreaths; that’s a great way to mark the seasons!

Where did you get your faux tobacco basket? I’d love to have one, since our life here in North Carolina was definitely shaped by tobacco, right?

    1. Thank you so much, Richella! I got the faux tobacco baskets from Decor Steals last month. I’ve seen them come up for sale once again, so keep your eye out. They’re smaller than real ones but so much more affordable.

  2. Oh, Suzy, your fall mantel is exquisite! You were right on with hanging the gate – it works fabulously with your tall ceilings. And the other colors and textures – Yum! So happy to be on the fall home tour with you!!

    1. Thank you so much, Sondra! You’re right – these tours are too fun!

    1. Thank you, Lauren! I’m so glad that you like it.

  3. Suzy,

    1. You’re too sweet, Vanessa – thank you! Yeah, that Opie looks really ferocious, doesn’t he? 😀

  4. Everything looks just amazing!

FYI – the link for “dogs dont eat pizza” is a facebook link and its broken

    1. Thank you so much, Christine! And thank you for letting me know about the broken link too. For some reason we had multiple problems with our links for this tour. Oh well – it should be fixed now. Have a great weekend!

    1. Thank you so much, Kim!

    1. Oh – you’re too sweet! I’m so glad you like the mantel!

  7. Suzy your mantle is gorgeous!!! My favorite is your beautiful gate decor paired with you lovely wreath!

    1. I’m glad you like it, Anne! So far, that gate is doing exactly what I wanted it to. It fills the space and lets me just change out what’s hanging on it.

  8. There is just so much fall decorating eye candy in this post Suzy, love your beautiful home and style! Where did you find the wreath above your mantel, the colors are so pretty!

  9. Im doing a symmetrical mantel, tall urn with micro lights inside, then two matching votives of different heights on each side. Would you recommend that I match the objects on each side of the hearth too, or mix it up like you did?

    1. Hi Lori. I really think it’s a matter of personal preference. I personally like to mix things up a bit. If you see my fall mantel this year (sharing on Sept. 16th!), you’ll see matching lanterns on either side of the mantel, but that’s about the only thing symmetrical/matching about it. If you can, try it both ways and see which way you like it the best!

  10. This is so pretty! I love the way you decorated the mantel! I can’t wait until we buy a house that has a fireplace just so I can decorate the mantle! 🙂

I’ve been a subscriber for over 2 years, and I have gotten so many wonderful ideas from you! I love FALL, so today’s decorations are so beautiful and put me in the mood for autumn! I love your tobacco baskets and the front door Sunflower arrangement in the basket. I can’t pick out a favorite room decor, as every room you’ve shown us has just the right professional Autumn decor. Thank you for sharing all of your great ideas and tips.
