Hi everyone! I’m Gabbi from Retro Ranch Reno! I don’t know about you guys, but I loooove getting a sneak peak into people’s homes…so when Suzy reached out to me to be a part of her House Snooping feature, I couldn’t have been more excited! I’m so honored she asked me to share my home!
My hubby and I searched for a place for several months, and needless to say it was quite the roller coaster ride. In the end, we realized location meant everything to us, and to get the perfect location, we’d have to purchase a not-so-perfect home. Although the 1950’s ranch we bought wasn’t much of a looker, I knew she had a ton of potential {even though my hubby thought I was crazy}!
We purchased our home using a rehab loan {so we could buy and renovate the “retro” out of it} in August 2011. Interior renovations didn’t start until late September, but we immediately tackled the exterior with a ton of help from my parents.
We removed the jungle-ish landscaping that had engulfed our property, painted our dreary house, added some new plants, mulched all the beds, removed some trees and dead limbs, replaced our roof, re-screened our back porch, replaced the old garage doors and even added a new patio. We’d like to think we are no longer an eyesore on our street. 😉
Even though the outside received it’s fair share of attention, a ton more was paid to the inside of our home.
When you walk into our house, you see our {now} open living/dining/kitchen area. Some of the major interior work we completed includes removing walls to create our open floor plan, renovating the kitchen {but keeping the old cabinetry to save $$$}, adding a bar door, updating the lighting/electrical throughout, replacing all the windows and doors, insulating the attic, gutting both bathrooms to make a large hall/guest bath, refinishing our hardwood floors, turning our 3rd guest bedroom into a master ensuite, DIY’ing a new tile hearth and probably a few more things I’m forgetting to add to the list. 😉

From our open living area, you head down the hall {which also looks a little different after some paint, stenciling, gallery walls and DIY artwork} to our guest bath and two guest bedrooms.
These two cramped baths…
…became this spacious bath for everyone to use!
Besides our basement, our two guest rooms {especially #2, which serves as junk room for projects}, have received the least amount of attention in the house.
At the end of the hall is our master bedroom and ensuite. The closet and bathroom were made out of the former third guest bedroom. It’s still a work in progress, but we love how it’s coming along so far.
Since we had to use professionals for much of our main floor reno, we had to be very cheap creative when it came to furnishing and decorating our home. If I didn’t get something second-hand or make it myself, then I definitely purchased it on sale, and with a coupon. 😉 Craigslist became my best friend throughout this process, and I found a deep love of DIY and crafting.
Thank you so much for taking a peek around our home, and stop by Retro Ranch often because things are always changing around here…ahem, we haven’t even started the basement yet! 😉 Thanks again, Suzy…this was a blast!! 🙂

Simply amazing. All the changes, the details and the flow of your home is outstanding. Not only do you enjoy the fruits of your labor as you live in this beautiful home, when it comes time to sell, it will do so fast. Only one thing, can you address why you hung the stunning light fixture above the dining room table the opposite way that the table is placed?
That was one amazing lot of beautiful renovation and decoration. Thanks for sharing it! Thanks too Suzy for stopping over at Quirky Vistas and cheering me up about my chair that “got away”. So glad you stopped by. I’m sorry but I couldn’t reply by email, because you came up as a no-reply blogger. Come by again! I love hearing from you.
