A Corner Of Our Family Room {New House vs Old House}

|

The corner of our family just may be my favorite spot!

I love this corner of our family room.  The whole room fills with light when the sun streams through the french doors.  My blogging spot is on one end of the couch and this is what I get to look at.  I guess that seems kind of silly, doesn’t it?  BTW – that’s the top of a surround sound speaker that you can see peeking above the top of the chair.

This is what you see when you enter our front door and look through the foyer.  You can get a little glimpse of our new area rug in this picture.  If you follow me on Instagram, then you may remember that I was worried about the pattern of this rug fighting with the pattern in the chair.  But I think it works just fine – you can see that I love to mix patterns.

And you get a glimpse of our painted brick fireplace too.  That was another DIY project that I posted a picture of on Instagram when I was contemplating whether or not to just whitewash the brick or completely paint it.  I guess you can see that completely painted won out.  I loved the whitewashed look, but Pookie thought it was a little pink.

Side Table

The side table is actually a cute stool that I picked up at HomeGoods last year.  It comes in handy sometimes for extra seating.  All I have to do is move the tray over onto the hearth and pull the stool around to wherever it’s needed.

Adding a tray to a stool allows it to be used as a side table.Pin

You may remember this same chair and table from the family room in our former home.  It was another late addition to that house before we knew we were going to be moving.  I don’t think that I ever did a post specifically about that chair, but you can see how it looked in that house HERE.

It’s amazing to me how the same piece of furniture takes on a totally new look when moved from one place to another in the room.  Click HERE if you’d like to see the change in the console table from the old house to the new house.

Beautiful cozy corner! The fireplace looks great and I love those cute little vases!

    1. Thank you, GF! I just need for it to stop raining so that I can get the fireplace surround painted and installed. I’m tired of looking at the big black hole of the fireplace.

  2. I think you made the right choice with the solid paint vs whitewash. I think if you had a monochromatic living room the whitewash may have worked as a textural element, but with the beautiful colors in the room the solid makes a classic statement, much like a good crown or baseboard moulding.
I love the rug! And I really like the spheres you’ve placed around the room too!

    1. Thank you so much, Terri. The solid white paint gives it more of a classic look for sure. My husband was right when he said it was too pink when it was just whitewashed.

  3. Suzy, the chair is great in your new home and I love the mix of patterns. Even though I love to sit on our couch too it looks like it would be great to bask in the sun in that chair. A great reading spot – summer or winter! Fireplace looks great, too!
    love and blessings~

    1. Thank you, Lynda. That probably explains why my dog wants to push all of the pillows out of it and lay on it all the time – the sun is so warm coming through the glass.

  4. Love the design in the chair with the pillows,
Looks great. I’m always hesitant to add different graphics together, but they work.

  5. This is a darling corner. I love it when things work out perfectly, don’t you? I just reworked a corner in my great room and just sit across and stare at it, I love it so much!

    1. Thank you, Johlene. Trust me – I do a lot of dreaming in this corner – day dreaming that is! 😛

  8. That looks like a great spot and a lovely view from your entry too .I like how you mixed the patterns with neutrals and texture.
