A Christmas Hot Chocolate Bar

Having a hot chocolate bar at your Christmas festivities is a fun addition to your gathering and a real treat for your guests!

You can set a hot chocolate station up anywhere, but this year I set one up on my screen porch. There’s just something about fixing a cup of hot chocolate in the crisp cold weather that makes it extra special. Of course, we bring our cups of hot chocolate indoors too!

But – if the weather is mild, like it usually is during the Christmas season here in NC, we often gravitate to the back porch to visit with one another before exchanging gifts.

A hot chocolate bar is perfect for a Christmas open house too!

People tend to congregate in the kitchen for some reason, so having the bar set up in a different location encourages everyone to spread out and mix and mingle.

It gives me an excuse to use some of my favorite mugs that stay tucked away in a cabinet the rest of the year. They are one of the prettiest Christmas plaids that I’ve ever seen.

My hot chocolate mix isn’t anything fancy. But put it in a wide mouth jar with a wooden scoop and a piece of ribbon around the top and you’d never know that it’s just premade powdered mix that you can buy at any store.

I picked up the cute Santa mugs at Hobby Lobby last year. They’re too small to drink out of, but they sure are cute to decorate with.

Don’t forget to include some Christmas’y stir sticks!

I even hung several of the little Santas on a little mini Christmas tree that I placed on a pedestal.

Instead of making a homemade mix, I included lots of fixings that you can customize your drink with.

  • snowflake marshmallows
  • mini marshmallows
  • peppermint chips
  • chocolate chips
  • ground cinnamon
  • marshmallows on a stick with sprinkles
  • caramel chips

This was a lot of fun for me to set up and my guests really enjoyed it!

One year, I set up a mini version of a hot chocolate station in my kitchen, which you can see HERE.

Have you ever set up a hot chocolate bar at your home?
