Keep Your Home Decor Looking Fresh Without Following Every Trend
Keeping up with current home interior design can be done without chasing trends. These timeless decorating tips will help your spaces stay fresh and stylish.

If you’re anything like me, you want your home to feel modern and updated–but without falling into the trap of trendy and basic decor ideas. The goal is to make your home timeless but with a twist. Something that is original, feels like your own, and isn’t what every other home looks like on Instagram or Pinterest.
Here are some of my favorite ways to decorate a home to feel fresh without having the same home interior design trends as everyone else on social media.
Rearrange Accessories for a Quick Refresh
One of the easiest ways to make your home feel new is to simply move things around. Try switching lamps between rooms, slightly redecorating your coffee table, or changing up the accessories on your mantel.

Being completely free and done quickly, rearranging items in your household is the perfect manageable way to make a difference.
Mix Styles for a Collected Look
Instead of sticking to one decor style, you can also mix different styles to refresh your home.

You can start by pairing a modern style lamp with a traditional style side table or by layering a rustic bench under a more tailored photo/gallery wall. This mixed approach keeps your home from looking like a showroom rather than lived-in and helps it feel timeless.
Add Life with Greenery
One of the easiest ways to give life to a room is by adding greenery. Whether the plants are real or faux, greenery adds a soft touch and gives your home that fresh look.

Place a potted plant in a corner that feels flat or put a small arrangement of greenery on a shelf or bathroom vanity.
Add a Vibrant Pattern
I love adding bold patterns to a room because it adds instant energy into a space.

A patterned throw, a fun rug or even a brightly patterned tray on your coffee table really can add so much character to a room without having to completely overhaul your space.
Use Inexpensive Pillow Covers to Change Things Up
Instead of investing in trendy furniture or expensive accessories, try changing out your pillow covers. It is inexpensive and a low-commitment way to play around with color, texture, and pattern–especially for the seasons.

Look for pillow covers with a zipper so you can easily swap out the look in no time and they don’t take up much space when you need to store them.
Use a Pop of Color
A quick way to breathe new life into a space is to add a pop of color. Consider adding a bright lamp, colorful artwork or a cheerful vase to your space.

Even just one or two pops of color and rejuvenate your space and make it feel more current.
Add Something Unexpected
One of my favorite ways to keep a room from feeling trendy is by adding a touch of the unexpected.

Add a new piece of abstract art to a traditional-style room, a vintage chair in a modern space, or even something different like a sculptural accent on a shelf. This also adds a bit of fun and personality to your space.
Avoid Trend Fatigue By Choosing What You Truly Love
Trends may come and go, but your home should reflect you. If you adore a piece, use it–even if it is not “in” at the moment. Staying true to yourself and your style will always keep the decor in your home looking fresh compared to what is currently popular.

It is more than possible to keep your home looking updated and new without being trendy. Stay focused on what is simple, affordable, and dive into what you love. These ideas are perfect for making your home feel fresh without sacrificing personality or only following recent trends.
